Our Constitution declares that the President "shall from time to time give to the Congress Information on the State of the Union" (Article II, Section 3, Clause 1). For 221 years, our leaders have fulfilled this duty. On January 25, 2011, President Obama delivered the annual address to a joint session of Congress from the House Chamber at the U.S. Capitol. The State of the Union gives the President an opportunity to not only report on the condition of our Nation, but also to outline his legislative agenda and priorities to Congress and the American people. Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin delivered the Republican Response to the State of the Union. This ebook contains the full text of the State of the Union Address and the Republican Response.
