Clay Dillon is going to his first day of first grade, and he doesn't know what to expect. When he gets to the school, he discovers that they aren't really expecting someone like him either. Alone on the playground, how is a young autistic boy supposed to figure out what the rules are? No one seems to notice that he doesn't understand what's going on, and he becomes frustrated as he is continuously punished for things that he couldn't possibly know are wrong.
