This first book in The Retired Housewife’s Guides for the Technically Challenged is intended to get you caught up. It is written in clear, easy to understand language with little or no assumptions of prior knowledge. •In section 1 I discuss hardware. The chapters are: desktop computers and laptops; tablets and hybrids; smartphones; entertainment devices; and peripherals. •Section 2 starts with the operating system (focusing on Windows, sorry Mac users). I then explain the different types of programs and apps available. The last chapter of this section I walk you through how I learn new software and applications.•Technology is everywhere and section 3 highlights some of the technology that we use every day including: photos, media, communications and options available in some newer models of cars.•Section 4 begins with how the internet works and concludes with the basics of social media. Along the way I discuss the search engine and blogging.I have included an extensive glossary of terms. I have also included many ways that you can get in touch with me to ask questions, offer suggestions for future books and receive technology tips (#techtips) and information on future books.We are not dummies we have just been busy for the last 20 years.
