New Orleans, 1926, offers much to People of Color. However, Jim Crow is alive and well. In their six years of marriage, Eugene has grown comfortable with his uptown wife's over protective uncles and brother. Eartha is still learning to relax around her Seventh Ward in-laws. She is fortunate though. Her husband holds the prestigious title of Pullman Porter. He is efficient and respected on the Illinois Central line and has been recognized as a person who goes above and beyond the call of duty.
Never-the-less, no good deed goes unpunished. Eugene catches the eye of powerful, prosperous men who introduce him to a world that he could never have imagined. Stimulated by greed, 1927 sees the once happy couple frequently at odds. Is the marriage institution a strong enough bind to sustain their love?
